Gender by Choice (Survey of Attitudes Towards the Concept of Gender)

The text presents an analysis of the use of the term „Gender“ in the Istanbul Convention and the variants of the term in the Bulgarian translation of the document. The results of the analysis of the media use of the term „gender“, as well as the new meanings of the word in the media context, are presented briefly. The results are supported by a survey of public attitudes to the concept of gender and its understanding. The conclusions highlight the statement of the discrediting of the concept and the impossibility of accepting the term outside of the negative connotations it carries as a result of changes in its meaning.
