The article examines the development of education in the village of Breznitsa in the twentieth century, focusing on the challenges faced by students and teachers. Interviews with residents of the region reveal the socio-economic difficulties, the lack of educational resources and the restrictions imposed by traditional patriarchal attitudes, especially towards girls. Despite these barriers, the desire for knowledge remains strong, and school is established as a key factor for social mobility and integration. Particular attention is paid to the role of teachers, who not only transmit knowledge, but also serve as inspirers and educators. The article emphasizes that the educational environment in the region was multicultural, uniting Christian and Muslim students in a spirit of understanding and tolerance. Despite the lack of resources and difficult living conditions, students demonstrate a persistent desire for education, perceiving it as the only path to a better future. The study reveals how, despite financial constraints and societal attitudes, the village's first university graduates are paving the way for future generations. The analysis highlights the importance of education not only as a tool for personal advancement, but also as a means of strengthening community and preserving national identity.
