The current study follows the development of tattooing in Bulgaria. Emphasis is placed on the professionalization of this industry. In the text, the people who deal with tattoos are divided into three main groups, in order to be easily understood the professional growth in this newly created field. There are described the different stages of training, through which amateurs become tattooists and tattoo artists. Also, attention is paid to the problems with the lack of a tattooist association for taking measures against the unauthorized studios, which leads the government regulators to the inability for imposing strict control.
