Abstract

Svetoslav Ribolov, Byzantine Ecclesiastical Chant: A Legacy of the Holy Fathers. The present research provides a Eucharistic perspective on Byzantine ecclesiastical chant. Since the 18th century, there has been a growing trend in the Slavic Churches to replace ecclesiastical chant with secularized polyphonic music. The author expresses deep theological concerns about this practice, arguing that it undermines the close relationship between Liturgy and Theology and detaches the Holy Liturgy from its Patristic roots.
