Abstract

Martyr Lucian was the first known Bible teacher in Antioch (Syria). His school was of particular importance to the Antiochian Church. The recension of the biblical collection produced by Lucian served as the Textus Receptus for the Church in Constantinople at the end of the 4th century. Despite some doubts about the connections between him and the circle of theologians around Ari-us by the mid-4th century, the memory of this martyr and biblical scholar has remained intact in the Orthodox Church.
