Fr. Mihail Mihaylov, Synodal Decrees: Their Juridical Characteristics, Functions and Application. Knowledge of applicable law is essential for its effective implementation. This requires authorities to make law-enforcement measures public in a timely manner so that those affected by the relevant provisions are aware of them and can adjust their behavior accordingly. This principle fully applies to local church law, which includes the special Synodal Ordinance. Therefore, a proper understanding of the Synodal Regulations, considering their legal characteristics, functions, and applications, is crucial and must be thoroughly examined and explained. This article analyzes the use of the concept of Synodal Ordinance in the Statute of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church–Bulgarian Patriarchate (BOC-BP), the status and role of this legal source within the general system of church law, and the benefits and challenges associated with its application. Additionally, it proposes measures to prevent misuse of the institute, such as conducting a Church Council periodically as stipulated by the UBOC-BP, which would sanction the issued Synodal Ordinances. The article underscores the importance of the Synodal Regulations as a source of local church law, establishing legal norms that carry the same authority as those created by the BOC Statute itself.Downloads
