Abstract

Lubomir Guentchev is a Bulgarian writer whose work was discovered in 1999. By 1930, he had conceived poems in Bulgarian, then, between 1949 and 1955, plays including one, which he transposed into French (Théurgie). He translated Bulgarian Symbolist poets into French (Peyo Kr. Yavorov, Nikolai Liliev and Teodor Trayanov, among others), and numerous French and German authors into Bulgarian. He also composed several collections of poetry in French. To what extent did this bilingualism foster in him a paradoxical phenomenon of self-restraint imposed by the circumstances of the time? What were its motives, goals and scope?

    Alain Vuillemin, professeur émérite de littérature comparée, est un spécialiste de l’étude des idées et des mythes politiques à travers les littératures européennes des XX°-XXI° siècles. Membre associé du laboratoire « Lettres, Idées, Savoirs » (LIS, EA 4395) de l’Université « Paris-Est » (UPEC – F 94110 Créteil, France) il est l’auteur de : Le Dictateur ou le dieu truqué dans les romans français et anglais de 1918 à 1984 ; Les écrivains contre les dictatures (2015) et, avec Papa Samba Diop, de : Les littératures de langue française (2015). Ses derniers ouvrages parus sont : La légende de Catarina Paraguaçú et de Diogo Álvares Caramurú, un mythe littéraire moderne ; Reflets des dictatures à travers la littérature européenne ; Cathares, Bogomiles, Pauliciens à travers les arts, l’histoire et la littérature, tous trois en 2018, et en 2019 : Lubomir Guentchev : Anthologie de poètes français et allemands - Антология на френски и немски поети [traduits en bulgare].
