Peer Review Process

Double-Blind Peer Review by Two Independent Reviewers

The call for submissions of new articles is open until the end of January of the respective year. Upon submission, the Editorial Board reviews the submissions for relevance to the proposed topic and the scholarly areas of the Journal, as well as for conformity to the layout and formatting requirements. Articles are tested for plagiarism with the help of the StrikePlagiarism.com plugin software. Once an article passes the initial screening, the article is sent for anonymous reviewing to two external scholars who are experts in the paper’s subject matter. The author signs and send via email a Statement that certifies that they submit their text for first publication to Colloquia Comparativa Litterarum and that they agree to the ethical norms and the copyright policies of the Journal. The reviewing process ought to last no longer than a month, and ought to match the following criteria:

  1. Papers undergo double-blind peer review by two external scholars who are experts in the specific subject matter and are not affiliated with the author’s institution.
  2. Reviewers receive anonymous versions of the papers.
  3. The completed Reviewer Card contains an evaluation of the article (either positive, or negative) supported by argumentation, as well as comments and recommendations to the author.
  4. If the two reviewers differ in their evaluation, the opinion of a third reviewer is sought, whose verdict is accepted as final.
  5. The Reviewer Cards, thus filled in, are sent to the author without the reviewers’ details (whereby reviewers remain anonymous to the author). In the event of a need of minor or significant corrections, the author has two to three weeks at their disposal to provide the required corrections and additions.
  6. When making significant corrections, the opinion of the reviewers is sought again for approval and publication.
  7. The author is thus notified via email that their article has been either accepted or rejected. Prior to publication, the author is sent a PDF file with the galleys, so that they can review the text once more; however, no substantial changes may be made at this stage.
  8. If a member of the Editorial Board has submitted an article for publication, another member of the Editorial Board takes care of the reviewing process.
