Publication ethics

Tereni’s publishing ethics and terms for avoiding abuse are in line with those of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski”. Those are based on the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and aim at introducing good practices on ethical issues and standards of ethical conduct at all stages of the publishing process.

Tereni welcomes the formulation of clear, original hypotheses. The journal only publishes texts that have not been previously published in Bulgarian or another language. The use of other author’s works, direct or indirect borrowing without proper citation and references is unacceptable. Authors are expected to give credit in good faith to their use of other author’s publications. The Editorial Board takes the necessary steps to prevent the publication of manuscripts containing controversial research or scholarly practices; such practices are not encouraged nor knowingly allowed under any circumstances. In the case of collective texts, all researchers involved in their production must be acknowledged, and each of them must be made aware of the proposal for the article’s publication. In cases of alleged or proven scientific contradiction, fraud or plagiarism, the Editorial Board shall take all necessary measures to clarify the situation. If necessary, this includes the immediate publication of an announcement, clarification or, in the case of the most serious violations, the withdrawal of the respective manuscript and referral to the competent authorities.

The editorial board of Tereni accepts manuscripts on the basis of their academic value (originality, timeliness, contribution), without regard to gender, race, ethnicity, political or religious philosophy, social or institutional affiliation, and without external influence. The Editor-in-Chief has the right to determine the content of the respective journal and the date of publication of approved texts.

The members of the editorial team and the reviewers declare that they will maintain confidentiality regarding the author and the content of the texts until their publication, and that they will not use or provide to third parties unpublished information about the manuscript without the written consent of the authors. The information obtained as a result of the processing of the manuscript is considered confidential and will not be used for personal gain. The editors and reviewers declare that they will not participate in the process of reviewing manuscripts that may lead to a conflict of interest - including, but not limited to, on the basis of competitive, partnership or other relationships with an author or an affiliated institution. In such a case, the editor concerned requests that another member of the editorial board be responsible for the manuscript, and the reviewer concerned informs the editorial board of the possible conflict of interest, and the editorial board decides on the next step.

Editors are obliged to react to possible breaches, whether they concern a published or unpublished article, and to take appropriate action in response: correction, retraction, publication of a clarification, or other appropriate action, if necessary.

Authors should present original and previously unpublished texts, they should correctly acknowledge the contributions of all those involved in the specific publication, accurately and objectively present and interpret the analyzed data, correctly cite the sources of information, respect other opinions and positions, transparently reflect any financial support for the research, and respect the journal's publication ethics. A key requirement is the publication of original empirical material collected personally by the authors using the methods of the discipline in which they are positioned. Authors are required to make reasonable efforts to anonymize data and interlocutors in cases where publication may harm sources of information or third parties. When publishing non-anonymized data and names, the explicit written consent of the interlocutor is required. The expression of views and opinions contrary to the laws of the Republic of Bulgaria and professional ethics is not allowed.

The texts submitted for publication undergo an anonymous evaluation by two reviewers, academics with specialized knowledge in the respective field. Authors are expected to comply with the recommendations of the reviewers and the Editorial Board, with the Editorial Board making the final decision on the publications.
