Abstract

A large part of the Tatar ethnic group in Bulgaria lives in an urban, multi-ethnic and multicultural environment with complex social and ethno-cultural relationships. In these conditions, the Tatar family is a system for preserving the Tatar cultural identity, by producing anthropological ties based on intergenerational continuity and ancestral ties. Based on these components, I will trace the manifestations of the Tatar ethnic culture in the conditions of the modern urban environment. The spiritual and cultural pluralism existing in the modern Bulgarian nation guarantees the preservation of cultural identities. In the present report, I will explore the transformations of the ethnic Tatar culture in conditions of dynamic socio-economic and societal changes and an intensified acculturation process. By presenting ethnic holidays and rites, the traditions and customs of the Tatar community in Bulgaria at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 11th century, I will trace the impact of acculturation processes. Guided by the thesis about the importance of the interaction between cultures, I will emphasize acculturation as a process, taking into account the fact that each culture has its uniqueness, with which it exists subjectively in time and space and is preserved in the memory of the respective community. The present report is part of an ethnopsychological study "Local culture of the Tatars in Bulgaria at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 11th century".
