Best men sponsorship through a distance

This study includes the period of the last decades in the 19 th century to the end of the 20s of the 20th century. It is based on the archive of acad. N. Nachov and depicts him as a best man and godfather of the Drensky family. It shows the changes in the traditional spiritual kinship in the boundaries of a settlement with a large Diaspora. These changes are a result of the specific for Kalofer rotary working-abroad for living as well as the modernizing influence of European culture. The article investigates maintaining of the spiritual kinship which is inherited and the option of its changing, relationship between best men, sponsored men and godsons, the place of sponsorship in the system of traditional and modern social nets, attempts of preservation of tradition through its renovating.
