Aspects of local identity - the second half of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century

(the case of Bansko and Razlog)

Abstract

The article presents the initial findings from fieldwork in connection with a dissertation study on the development of local identity in Bansko and Razlog during the period from the second half of the 20th to the beginning of the 21st century. It addresses the uniqueness and distinctiveness of the respective community, based on local culture, history and social practices. The study explores how local people perceive themselves and what unites them as a community. The article discusses economic and social factors, particularly the impact of tourism, globalization and the market on local identity, and how culture adapts in a rapidly changing environment. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used, including archival research, interviews with local residents and analysis of cultural and social events. The study is expected to provide up-to-date data on cultural change. The primary goal of the research is to identify the key manifestations of contemporary identity and the mechanisms driving transformation in the community and to explore opportunities for preserving authentic culture in the context of global trends.
