Abstract

This article is devoted to the growing infighting within the Democratic Alliance (DA) after the defeat in the 1931 election and to the fact that those disputes deeply affected the process of organizing the party's long-awaited first regular congress. The author also seeks explanation for the perception of certain figures among the more prominent figures in the DA about the role of the congress in the future of the organization and thus the article follows the attempts of some of them to manipulate the local subdivisions of the party before the big meeting in Sofia. In addition, the author seeks to find the reasons for the repeated postponement of the convening of the party forum and to explain how the splitting of the party and the exit of Alexander Tsankov and his supporters was not a surprise, but a carefully prepared act on the part of the former prime minister and his associates.
