On September 9, 1944, Bulgaria was occupied by the Red Army and an atheistic regime similar to that in Russia was introduced. In a short time, all state institutions were taken over. Within a few months, hundreds of clergy members passed through prisons, and many were killed without trial and sentence during what is called the People’s Court.
