The current paper analyses the basic principles of the status of Christians as "People of the Book" in the Ottoman Empire. Moreover what is examined is the application of Islamic Law and the model set by the Arab caliphate for regulating the coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims in the conditions of the new Muslim empire. The changes of the function and responsibilities of the Patriarch of Constantinople in relation to the Christian population are also considered.Файлове за сваляне
