Abstract

The main subject of research of the article “The Robot’s Human Body and the Perception of the Machine” (“R.U.R” by K. Čapek and “The Caves of Steel” by I. Asimov) is the robot created with a human body in the drama “R.U.R.” by Karel Čapek and the novel “The Caves of Steel” by Isaac Asimov. The article aims to prove, through analysis of the two literary works, a very important role that this body plays when the robot is introduced in the human world.

The article will present an analysis of the drama “R.U.R.” and the novel “The Caves of Steel”, which will also touch on some of the theories of the French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty, as well as on the concept of posthumanism. The analysis aims to prove one of the main roles that the human body of the robot has when it is presented in the human world – as the principal reason that facilitates the acceptance of the humans towards the robot, and to interpret this type of representation of the robot in the works of Karel Čapek and Isaac Asimov.
