Abstract

The article concerns the rise and the ratification of the Union of Brest in 1596 in the context of the primordial separation of Europe after the splitting of the Roman Empire into Eastern and Western in the year 395 as well as the geopolitical and cultural specifics of the region, where the Union is born and effective. Here is presented an idea that the first relative border between the East and the West, which goes by the Drina River, could be imaginary prolonged eastward to the reaches of Dnieper River and that the stability of the Union is due to the fact, that the border confessional duality causes a triality.
