Although nouns denoting persons of the female sex have always been mostly regular derivations in all Slavic languages, the use of feminitives in original as well as translated fiction is neither predictable nor systematic. This article draws material from the corpus of parallel texts CUB to discuss some peculiarities of the systems of feminitive nouns in Ukrainian and Bulgarian, especially such phenomena as neuter-gender feminitives and feminitives within common-gender words, with a focus on translation.
