The changing spoken form of Modern Standard Arabic in TAFL
a basis for developing communicative skills

The article reviews the current state of research on the spoken form of Modern Standard Arabic in the process of change. Based on an analysis of academic spoken discourse, the author examines the main characteristics at the phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical levels, which build a bridge between the standard form of the language and its numerous dialects and have a serious impact on the formation of good communication skills in learners from the very beginning of their education. Forms of effective inclusion of this still not officially regulated language variety in the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language to non-native speakers are recommended.
