Abstract

The challenges that have arisen due to the intellectual currents of the second part of the 20th century have led broader academia further away from the humanities in general , while history in particular has suffered perhaps in a greater degree. The author proposes the core views of two scholars about the nature and the task of the discipline of history as a potential way forward. Jaroslav Pelikan as well as Father George Florovsky are juxtaposed and interpreted in a way that highlights their connection to one another, while showing their relation to Bulgaria and specifically to the Theological Faculty of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".
