Où la frontière orientale de la littérature européenne se situe-t-elle ? C’est la grande question que pose la lecture e l’œuvre de Lessia Oukraïnka (1871–1913). En effet, défendant l’ukrainien comme langue littéraire, elle se place toutefois en porte-à-faux avec les ukrainophiles traditionalistes dans la mesure où elle veut développer une littérature ukrainienne moderne par son européanité. De là son polyglottisme, son intense activité de traductrice et le fait qu’elle fasse de son œuvre un véritable espace de polyglossie.
