Централната тема на статията е преводът на френски на романа Вълните от Вирджиния Улф, който Маргьорит Юрсенар прави през 1937 г. Спирам се и върху един голям дебат във Франция през 1993 г., когато на френски се появява втори превод на Вълните, направен от Сесил Вайсброт. В заключение статията представя рефлексията на М. Юрсенар върху В. Улф. Като очертава генеалогичните линии в почерка на Юрсенар, текстът отива отвъд очевидните предшественици като Марсел Пруст и Томас Ман, за да разкрие Улф като възможна предшественичка.
