130 years since the birth of Dimitar Yosifov Peshev – magistrate, lawyer and politician (June 13, 1894 – February 20, 1973)

The article traces the professional and political path of Dimitar Peshev. It is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of his birth. Special attention is paid to the ideological and political views of D. Peshev, to his activity as a member and vice-chairman of the XXIV and XXV Ordinary National Assembly. In this regard, the emphasis is placed on his role in saving the Bulgarian Jews and on the way in which he was removed from the position of vice-president of the XXV Parliament. The rich judicial career of D. Peshev is revealed, which ended after his refusal to accept the promotion as a prosecutor of the Varna District Court and his resignation. His rich and fruitful activity as a member of the ABJ Board of Directors and editor of the „Judicial Gazette“ is presented, including his idea to elevate the ABJ to the position of a representative of the bearers of judicial power. His legislative work as Minister of Justice in the first government of Georgi Kyoseivanov (November 23, 1935 – July 4, 1936) stands out. The impressive legal activity of D. Peshev is brought to the fore, which confirms his rich legal knowledge, talent and skills to argue and defend his views and thesis. His role in the adoption of the Ordinance-law supplementing the law on lawyers, approved by the Council of Ministers on January 27, 1936, which regulates lawyers’ insurance, is noted.
