The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Attorneys Act of 1925. The author reveals the reasons for creating two separate draft bills. It analyzes the approach and principles on which each draft bill is based, as well as the goals pursued by the Bulgarian Bar Union and the Ministry of Justice. The significant differences between the two draft bills are outlined. In this regard, the article emphasizes the lively and in-depth discussion of the Ministry of Justice’s draft bill. The path to the creation of the final version is traced. Special attention is given to the persistent struggle of the Union to establish the principles of independence, self-governance, and self-control of the Bar. The article concludes with the assertion that the acceptance of the requests and views of the Bar was an unprecedented victory for the Bulgarian Bar Union.
