The European prospects for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology

Abstract

This article examines the attitude of the European institutions to the new financial technology and cryptocurrencies, in particular, and the steps taken thus far for creating European level regulation that should harmonize the treatment of blockchain participants at the national level with a view to preventing money laundering and terrorist financing through the financial system of the EU, on the one part, and the encouragement of the development of new technology, on the other part.
