How was dissonant cultural heritage revealed

The shift in the social and political paradigm after 1989 inevitably brought a profound transformation in the sphere of cultural heritage and in understanding of what constitutes cultural heritage.
The dissonance of views and interpretations surrounding certain heritage emerges immediately after its "discovery." Here we draw a terminological analogy with inheritance in law: just as the legacy is opened with the death of the testator, so too the heritage of socialism was "opened" with the end of the period. It is newly discovered heritage, not part of the established cultural assets or "antiquities." This is the mystery of heritage – it comes into being through the disappearance of a historical era.
The approach to the topic is legal-anthropological. The methods employed include case analysis and observation, focusing on a specific category of heritage – dissonant cultural heritage. The study examines the emergence and consolidation of the concept of dissonant cultural heritage. Methodologically, the research is structured around several levels of observation: discourse (laws, judicial and administrative acts, etc.); practices and value systems (activism, dissent, protests). These layered observations, based on selected cases, complement each other and reveal the current configuration of dissonant heritage.
