Studia Archaeologica Universitatis Serdicensis (hereinafter SAUS) is an international, open-access scholarly journal in the field of archaeology, issued annually by the Department of Archaeology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and published by St. Kliment Ohridski University Press. It is the direct successor of the Annuaire de l'Université de Sofia “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Faculté d’Histoire, Studia Archaeologica (ISSN 1310-6090), published until 2006.

Reflecting the academic mission of the Department, the journal aims to publish high-quality research and foster scholarly debate on key issues in archaeology. Its thematic scope spans the full breadth of the discipline, including field archaeology, material culture studies, theoretical approaches, archaeometry, museology, and the application of digital tools and methods in archaeological research.

SAUS accepts submissions in both Bulgarian and English, serving a broad national and international readership. It features a diverse range of content types, including original research articles (such as fieldwork reports and short communications), state-of-research and discussion papers, book reviews, reports on scientific events and projects, and in memoriam pieces. Articles and other materials are systematically organized into thematic sections.

Academic integrity and quality are upheld by a committed editorial team composed of distinguished scholars affiliated with Sofia University, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and international academic institutions. All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review and editorial process.

SAUS is available in both print and online formats. It charges no article processing or publication fees, and all content is freely accessible under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.
