The Mystery of the Operetta. “Their Majesties - Singing, Dancing, Dialogue”
Keywords:
operetta, mysterious character, stage reincarnation, catharsis, satire, farceAbstract
There is a genre in the classics that builds even its most serious plots on funny and ridiculous scenes. It weaves mysteries and deep secrets into them, portrays its characters in the beginning with colors that do not belong to them, only to expose their true face in the finale, turning the overall picture built up so far upside down.
Farce and absurdity find their place here, where the ironic subtext, with a hint of love drama, is a pledge for brutal satire, ridiculing social foundations and the everyday life of the “sophisticated European”.
We call this genre operetta, and we remember its great artists with their stage incarnations and the original reading of their characters.
In this work, two of the most significant titles in the operetta repertoire will be examined, exposing their mysterious structures and presenting the foundations of mysticism in their plots. The focus is on part of the biographies of two of the leading singers of the Bulgarian operetta: Anelia Shumanova and Mimi Balkanska.
What is catharsis in the operetta, and how the author's connection with the recipient is realized through their mysterious characters, will form the essence of the mysterious operetta (from Italian - "little opera").
