Popular audio myths and why they're wrong

This publication aims to scientifically deconstruct and refute widespread myths and technical misconceptions in the field of audio engineering, sound recording and music production. The text analyzes the fundamental nonlinearities in dynamic signal processing, proving that the introduction of identical numerical parameters on different compressors does not guarantee the same sound result due to the deep differences in their hardware architecture (VCA, FET, diode, optocoupler, Vari-Mu and PWM topologies), which dictate unique time dependencies and harmonic distortions. In addition, critical aspects of monitoring in a studio environment are investigated, examining in detail the psychoacoustic limitations of mixing headphones compared to working in a professionally treated acoustic space with studio monitors. In the light of modern software and hardware technologies, the rules for positioning microphones, stereophony, balanced connections in a professional studio environment, external clock generator and many other myths and legends are traced.
