Abstract

Hardware mastering compressors are a must-have in any studio specializing in mastering. However, as we will learn from this study, they cannot always fulfill all the specific tasks that the mastering engineer is faced with. This is due to some peculiarities in the algorithmization used in sound processing, which is responsible for achieving the specific tasks of the final sound processing. Therefore, it is necessary to use hybrid setups, which differ both in terms of switching and in types of devices. These setups depend mostly on the style of the mastering engineer; and on the concept of the respective studio. However, the role of hardware processors in mastering remains high even with the availability of new and modern software algorithms for processing the music.
