About the Journal
The Journal for German and Scandinavian Studies (ISSN: 2815-2867) is a national open-access academic electronic journal with double-blind peer review by independent referees. It is published by St. Kliment Ohridski University Press.
The Journal is unique in Southeastern Europe and fulfills the need for a platform for knowledge exchange and promotion of the achievements of scholars from the region in the fields of German and Scandinavian Studies. The contributors to the Journal include both established specialists in these fields and early-career scholars from Southeastern and Central Europe, the German-speaking countries, and the Nordics. The ratio of authors affiliated with Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski to those from other research institutions is at least 2:1.
The sections “Linguistics”, “Literary Studies”, “Translation Studies”, “Cultural and Country Studies” form the scientific part of the Journal. They contain original fundamental and applied scholarly research in all areas of modern German and Scandinavian Studies – literary studies, linguistics, translation studies, social sciences, history and culture of the German-speaking countries and the Nordics, intercultural communication, multilingualism, philosophy, theatre studies, history of art, and musicology. The Journal prioritises research that explores and elucidates the connections and relations between Bulgaria, on the one hand, and the German-speaking countries and the Nordic countries, on the other, in the areas listed above.
The sections “Methodology and Didactics”, “Texts Awarded in Competitions for Students and Pupils”, “Translations of Prose and Poetry”, “Student Projects” and “Reviews” contain student texts; texts from competitions; reviews of scholarly publications and translations; surveys and reports; translations of fiction and poetry, journalistic and scholarly texts, and others.
The editorial board includes well-established and active Bulgarian and international scholars in literary studies, theoretical and applied linguistics, translation studies, social sciences, cultural studies and history, who are also members of international scientific associations and societies. The reviewers of the Journal are prominent scholars from Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Türkiye, Kosovo, Cyprus, Italy, Hungary and others.
The Journal is published annually in November. The annual submission deadline is June 1.
In connection with anniversaries, conferences, and other special occasions, special and thematic volumes of the Journal are published, following the established procedure for editing and reviewing materials. Special and thematic issues are also published in print, with their content identical to the electronic version.
The Journal publishes texts in Bulgarian, German, English, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish. The Journal does not charge any publication fees or any other fees.
