The article presents the opportunities and challenges faced by religious education in light of current issues in education within a digital environment, particularly during times of pandemic. As a model for overcoming these problems, the article proposes the use of digital educational technologies and media pedagogy. Based on a theoretical analysis of the current state of research and many years of practical experience in denominational religious education, a practice-oriented model for religious instruction is presented, grounded in the principles of media pedagogy and educational digitalization. This model has been implemented at the church school for religious education at the “Holy Trinity” Church in the city of Stara Zagora. The description is supplemented by an analysis of the real possibilities, effective practices, and key cognitive processes applied in modern digitalized education.
