Anna-Maria Krasteva, Vatican Radio: From "The Sofia Case of Murder" to the Goоd News. The founding of Vatican Radio on February 12, 1931, marked a significant milestone for the entire Christian world. After the Communists seized power in Bulgaria on September 9, 1944, Vatican Radio became a vital source of spiritual freedom in an atheistic totalitarian regime. This article examines the role of Vatican Radio and the challenges it posed to the Communist elite in Bulgaria. Drawing on new archival materials from the Bulgarian section of Radio Vatican, the paper highlights the media’s efforts during the Communist era to defend Catholics and Christians from the severe repression imposed by the regime.Downloads
