Abstract

Alena Kerezova, The Christological Views of St. John Damascene in De fide orthodoxa. The goal of the current paper is to highlight the importance of Christological teaching in St. John of Damascus’s doctrinal treatise, An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith. The paper examines Triadological and Christological dogma in relation to the Incarnation as a fundamental creed. St. John of Damascus summarizes the ideas of the Holy Fathers who preceded him, demonstrating the union of the divine and human natures of the Lord Jesus Christ in His person. In this context, the Chalcedonian Creed of 451 is also considered, showing that St. John of Damascus’s views fully align with it concerning the economy of salvation. Through the Incarnation, human nature can be deified and united with God, thus elevating fallen human nature anew.
