Journal History
The initiative for the Jubilaues series belongs to Prof. Margarita Tacheva, who proposed it at the very beginning of 1997, when she was the head of the Institute of Ancient History, Paleobalkan Studies and Thracology (later transformed into the Department of Ancient History, Thracian Studies and Medieval History) at the Faculty of History of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". According to her concept, jubilee conferences should be organised dedicated to the achievements of a prominent representative of Bulgarian science on Antiquity and the Middle Ages, and the respective presentations and talks at such conferences should be published in the Jubilaeus series. Immediately after presenting the idea to the team of the then Institute, Prof. M. Tacheva began organizing a conference in memory of Acad. Dimiter Detschew, since August 28, 1997, was the 120th anniversary of his birth. After the successful conference, the very next year the first issue of the series was published:
Jubilaeus I: Sbornik v pamet na Akad. Dimiter Detschew. Editor: Peter Delev. Sofia: Heron Press 1998, 126 p.
The second Jubilaeus conference was organised and successfully held in 1998 in honor of the 90th anniversary of Prof. Hristo M. Danov. In the process of preparing the respective issue, which was planned to also include Bibliographia Thracica (1980-1998), unfortunately the then doyen of Bulgarian science on Antiquity passed away (on January 28, 1999). This led to a change in the title of the prepared edition, which was already published in memory of Prof. Danov:
Jubilaeus II. Sbornik v pamet na Prof. Hristo M. Danov. Editor: Peter Delev. Sofia: Heron Press 1999, 182 p.
The editorial board of Jubilaeus I – II includes Prof. M. Tacheva and Assoc. Prof. P. Delev.
Jubilaeus III is dedicated to Prof. Boris Gerov (1903-1991). The conference, held in May 1999, was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the publication of the long-term work of the prominent Bulgarian Latinist and honored university lecturer “Inscriptiones Latinae in Bulgaria repertae” (Sofia 1989). The proceedings of the conference were published the following year:
Jubilaeus III. Sbornik v pamet na Prof. Boris Gerov. Editor Konstantin Boshnakov. Sofia: Gutenberg 2000, 144 p.
The editorial board of Jubilaeus III includes Prof. M. Tacheva and Prof. Dimitar Boyadzhiev.
Jubilaeus IV (2000) is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Bulgarian medievalist, Corresponding Member Dr. Veselin Beševliev (1900-1992). The editorial board of this issue includes Prof. M. Tacheva and Assist. Prof. Dr. Konstantin Boshnakov:
Jubilaeus IV. Sbornik v pamet na Corresponding Member Veselin Beševliev. Editor Konstantin Boshnakov. Sofia: Vulkan-4, 2000, 132 p.
Jubilaeus V (2002) is dedicated to Prof. Margarita Tacheva, in honor of her 65th birthday and 40 years since the beginning of her work in the field of ancient history and archaeology. It is a publication of the Department of Ancient History, Thracian Studies and Medieval History (as the Institute of Ancient History, Paleobalkan Studies and Thracology has already been transformed) at the Faculty of History of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". This volume of the Jubilaeus series includes for the first time studies by foreign colleagues:
Jubilaeus V. Sbornik v čest na Prof. Margarita Tacheva. Compiled by Konstantin Boshnakov and Dilyana Boteva. Sofia: University Publishing House "St. Kliment Ohridski" 2002, 419 p.
Jubilaeus VI (2007) is in memory of two pioneers in the research of Antiquity and the Middle Ages in the Bulgarian lands and in museum work of the newly liberated Bulgarian state - the brothers Škorpil:
Jubilaeus VI. Sbornik v pamet na Karel and Hermenegild Shkorpil. Compiled by Konstantin Boshnakov. Sofia: University Publishing House "St. Kliment Ohridski" 2007, 205 p.
After a 10-year hiatus, the Department of Ancient History, Thracian Studies and Medieval History (Faculty of History of the Sofia University) resumed the publication of the series with volume VII in memory of Prof. Margarita Tacheva, who passed away on 18.12.2008.
Jubilaeus VII: Society, Kings, Gods. In memoriam Professoris Margaritae Tachevae. Compiled and edited by Dilyana Boteva-Boyanova, Peter Delev. Julia Tzvetkova. Sofia 2018, 595 p.
At the idea of Prof. Petar Delev, in 2019, within the framework of the Jubilaeus series, a conference was organised on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the publication of the second edition of the foundational compendium of Bulgarian Thracian studies "Sources for the Ancient History and Geography of Thrace and Macedonia" (Sofia 1949 – in Bulgarian). The interest in this initiative among Bulgarian colleagues turned out to be so great that it was necessary to publish Jubilaeus VIII in two separate parts: 1 – "History and Epigraphy" and 2 – "Archaeology and Numismatics":
Jubilaeus VIII/1-2: Back to the Sources. In Memory of the Editors of “Sources for the Ancient History and Geography of Thrace and Macedonia”, on the Occasion of the 70th Anniversary from the Publication of the Second Extended Version in 1949. Compiled and Edited by Peter Delev, Dilyana Boteva-Boyanova, Lily Grozdanova. Sofia University Press 2021, 317 p. + 289 p.
