regulatory initiatives on crypto assets in the European Union and their impact on the Republic of Bulgaria

Abstract

This two-part study aims to dispel doubts and demonstrate that crypto assets are regulated in the EU, including in the Republic of Bulgaria as a Member State. To this end, it examines key EU legislative initiatives addressing systemically important activities, services, and entities in the crypto ecosystem. The legal regime for crypto assets under review places the EU in the position of a global leader for the introduction of a comprehensive legal framework for crypto assets that is consistent with global standards and best practices.
